It seems that most pubs these days are being plagued by
the people that don't want you to have warez. You find a
game or app that you'd like, enter the folder, only to find that
most of the disks have been deleted. There are people out there
with the agenda to destroy pirated software. They put as much effort
into finding this software and deleting because it gives them
the satisfaction they lack in their empty and pointless lives.
Maybe there's a higher power at play; perhaps the software companies
themselves..Who knows.
PROTECTING PUB FTP's: Either step 1 or 2 will work
1. Just use Get-Right (http://tucows.cyberspacehq.com/files/getrgt.exe).
Have Get-right download each of these files at a
speed-limit of 0.1KB/s. If you keep this transfer going, it could
literally last days and days and days, if not weeks. If you're
downloading this file, the server will NOT allow the deleter to
nuke the file since the system protects it while in use.
Deleters are absolutely shit out of luck, this cannot be bypassed in any
in any way without Server Administrator permissions...theres absolutely
nothing they can do (ooooh....i like the sound a that).
I've done this successfully. I was downloading an ISO not long
ago when a deleter started hacking away at the files. I immediately
"file protected" 20 or 25 of the disks that I needed using this method, and they
lived until i completed my transfer and shut the protection off.
I guess its up to you. you can go through the trouble to do this, and make
absolutely sure you get the files you've queued...or not, and run the almost
definite risk of them being deleted while youre dling.
2. GO TO INTERNET SERVICES AND MAKE THE FTP DIRECTORY READ ONLY. Make all files that you upload read only.
ALSO - To you Uploaders and FXP groups out there, the ones who go through
all the trouble to make these sites available, please, for YOUR sake and
the sake of everyone else...start protecting those precious pubs. It's worth it.
