“Kishin Corps” is Pioneer's tale of international espionage, alien
invaders and robots as they were meant to be. The story, which unfolds
in WW II-era China, follows the struggle between Nazi forces, the
Manchurian wing of the Japanese army and an elite force known only as
the “Kishin Corps” for possession of a handful of extraterrestrial
“control modules” which make possible the construction and operation of
immense machines.
As great as the story is, it is the style of art and character design
which makes “Geo-Armor” special. The mechanical beasts of “Kishin” were
created with a retro-realistic style and the dark, brooding backgrounds
give it a drama uncommon in animation and reminiscent of Disney's
“Sleeping Beauty” or Ralph Bakshi's “Lord Of The Rings. The overall
effect is what “Animerica” magazine's Julie Davis described as, “that
very special kind of awe and wonder found at the heart of the very best
old-time ‘giant robot’ shows... the magic of the machine.”

The US DVD title of this series is the rather long 'Alien Defender Geo
Armor - Kishin Corps'. Since the VHS and LD releases were always just
'Kishin Corps' we have released it under this name (the Geo Armor bit
is not in the original Japanese title anyway). Props to Technique for
releasing the DivX of this a few days ago.
This is one of the most annoying OVAs to encode - the 1st episode is just
under an hour long, and the remaining 6 episodes are 30mins long. I did
try and get eps 1+2 on 2 CDs, but the quality wasn't good enough (this
show is mostly action based). All future eps will be 1 per CD.
